I have been looking forward to this article after your post on LinkedIn. Thanks for sharing this, you've always been very straight forward and transparent about these controversial topics and I appreciate you for that. I have a question about your actual portfolio on Figma, can you share a guide to how you go about that?
Hey Ene! Thanks so much for this sweet comment, really appreciate it! Yes, I can do a guide on that! But just so you won’t have to wait for that now, the gist is:
1. Collecting designs, prototypes, research - anything to build your case study and move it into a new Figma file
2. Create a presentation by making slides out of frames (I use a framework of context, problem, solution, impact)
3. Link the frames as a prototype.
Although you can now also easily do this with Figslides. The benefit of doing it in Figma is that you can duplicate your slides, exclude slides and adjust your presentation based on the job you’re applying to. You might want to mix&match some case studies to fit the role better.
When sharing, I make sure that only people with the link can view the file so it’s not public.
Ohh I see. So you're giving them the portfolio presentation on first contact. Yes this makes perfect Maureen! What would be your recommendations to creating a good presentation? I tried connecting with you on LinkedIn so I could send a DM but I had to provide your email address.
Great insights on the job hunt, thanks for sharing! Treating interviews as conversations is something I’ve learnt over time, but I’m still working on getting better at it. I guess practice really helps? I’d love to know what helped you get more comfortable with interviews. Any key lessons or mindset shifts that made a difference?
Thanks for sharing Maureen! This is really helpful advice coming from a UX Designer on the job hunt! Are you able to share the Notion template you used for the job app tracker?
